MCM Rectangular Modern Japan Ikebana 6" Sculpture Flower Vase Toyo Lava Glaze

Description

This vintage mid-century ikebana container is stunning.  The only marking is on the bottom that is either two letters "S 0" or possibly height 6"0.  It is water-tight and gently used, cleaned and stored without damage: no chipping, cracking, scratches or staining visible to the eye or felt by the hand.  The outside "cake frosting" appearance was applied by hand in the color and texture of the moriaged clay splatter and glaze that is seen on Toyo produced containers of that era.  The container measures 5.625" in height at its highest point, 4.75" at its widest width, and 6" in length at the top of the container.   The two bench legs stand 2.25" in height, balance and support the containers hefty weight of nearly 3 lbs.  The inside has a blue bottom, greenish sides and a water depth up to 2.5".  This is part of the extensive collection of ikebana containers from which only a few have been selected by our children and their families to keep.  All pictures were taken in a camera tent. The empty coke can is not for sale, but to illustrate the size of the container.
